Our Story
Paulina & Akash met each other in Leuven as students in September 2014.
Akash had just moved to Belgium to start his Masters degree at the university in Leuven (KU Leuven) while Paulina was in the last year of her Bachelors degree at the same university. Akash had signed up for the buddy programme where a local student, who is familiar with the way things work in the university, city & country, helps out the new incoming student. Paulina had volunteered to be the local buddy as part of the same programme and it just happened that they were assigned to each other.
Both of them just remained friends for the one year in Leuven, after which Paulina moved to Spain for her Master studies while Akash moved to Germany for his 2nd year of Master studies. Both remained in touch over social media over the next couple of years.
As a matter of coincidence, both of them moved back to Belgium in the course of time with Akash moving to Ieper for his job in 2017 & Paulina moving to Leuven for her job in 2018. Paulina organised a dinner for her friends who still lived in Belgium, where she invited Akash as well. That fateful night, Akash missed his last train to Ieper &, not having any other place to stay in Leuven, had to spend the night on Paulina’s couch.
Akash already had plans to see the Perseid meteor showers back home in Ieper that night, especially because it happened to be an unusually clear night sky in Belgium that night. Not wanting to miss the opportunity, Akash asked Paulina if he could use the balcony to check out the meteor showers. All along, Paulina worried that this was his way of making a move but she soon realised that he was indeed interested in the meteor showers. Aside from the beautiful meteor shooting across the sky, the night passed uneventfully with Akash sleeping on the couch & Paulina in her own room.
The next morning though, they shared a very long breakfast and got to know each other better. Akash invited Paulina to visit him in Ieper so that he could show her around the historical city and so that he could get to know her better. The rest, as they say, is history.
